On Being Nice (or Not)

I feel that we can’t be too nice because nice people get eaten up alive. Some people like to play bully and take advantage because nice people don’t really speak out that much. Nice people are cool headed people who seldom fight and wage war, unlike their opposites who usually go straight to war with full battle gear in tow. But there comes a point when one realizes that being nice sometimes ain’t gonna cut it out. I’m actually all for nice. But sometimes one also has to put a little mean streak and let themselves be heard and fight for what they stand for. Yes even if it would mean going to battle. I personally would rather give it a fight then not do anything at all.

It will all ultimately depend on the situation though. There is no black or white here. Sometimes you have to be nice and sometimes certain situations call for you to be a little mean. In the end, one has to find the right balance which is the real trick here, because some people tend to overdo one over the other. There are times when some people are too nice and some are just over the top with their meanness. Finding a middle ground for nice and mean is fairly simple that is, know when to speak up. Know when to put your fist down and say, enough already! On the other hand, also know when to keep that sharp tongue and temper in check. Know when to keep yourself from bursting into a volcano or from waging WWIII. As they say, learn to choose your battles wisely. Stop, sit down, and reflect whether the battles you are fighting for are even worth your energy and time in the first place. Try to keep things in perspective and don’t let every little trivial thing (or persons or situations) get to you. As one of my friends would put it, “Laging talo ang pikon.”

Horoscope for the Day

My horoscope always gives good advice. Ang galing talaga.

"If the doorknob doesn't want to turn today, dear Scorpio, don't force it. You will only succeed in breaking the key in half. Perhaps you just need to try another door. If things don't flow smoothly into place, then they probably weren't meant to be. Life shouldn't have to be a struggle. Our job is to be happy. Remember that the next time you find yourself in a long line, view the situation as a relaxing period of rest."
